Il Santuario “La Candela” è un’organizzazione, senza scopo di lucro, fondata nel 2010 dall’aAvista Lucía Martinez. E’ situato nel Parco Nazionale di Doñana, in provincia di Siviglia. La missione del santuario è il salvataggio e la riabilitazione di tutti gli animali salvati da maltrattamenti, incidenti, sfruttamento, potenziale abbattimento.
Inizialmente il santuario era dedicato soprattutto a casi di cani considerati potenzialmente pericolosi. A seguito della sua espansione, La Candela ha iniziato ad ospitare anche animali da fattoria e animali salvati dal maltrattamento delle feste di paese, raggiungendo una quota di 300 ospiti. Nel 2018, con la chiusura del santuario “La Pepa”, La Candela ha preso in carico altri 250 animali arrivando oggi ad ospitare più di 500 animali di tutte le specie. Questa realtà è mantenuta in vita da solo una decina di operosi volontari, tra residenti, non residenti e stagionali.
Oltre alla finalità di cura e salvaguardia, questa riserva naturale di oltre ottanta ettari è un progetto in continua evoluzione dedicato alla felicità degli animali salvati, e a quella delle persone che lo abitano, avendo inoltre come obiettivo l’autosufficienza energetica.
“Nel santuario La Candela crediamo nelle seconde opportunità. Crediamo che l’affetto e la pazienza siano la pozione segreta per rendere possibile l’impossibile. Lottiamo per un mondo più giusto per gli animali non umani e umani e per la terra in cui viviamo.”
In tutti questi anni hanno realizzato una preziosa rete di collaborazioni basata su partner, adozioni a distanza, teamers e donatori puntuali, che gli permettono di pagare le spese veterinarie, assistere le urgenze e adoperarsi per nuovi salvataggi, oltre che al mantenimento del santuario.
Le esigenze veterinarie per le cure e i farmaci da dedicare agli ospiti animali che i volontari accolgono, necessitano spesso di grossi investimenti economici, specialmente per le terapie di lungo decorso. In particolare, a seguito dello shock pandemico, si sono molto inasprite le difficoltà economiche mettendo a rischio il proseguimento dell’operato e le garanzie di assistenza e salvaguardia verso gli animali.
Per questo motivo sono state avviate diverse attività di sostegno verso questa rara e preziosa realtà, come ad esempio la possibilità di adottare a distanza, effettuare libere donazioni una tantum o una formula di sostegno ricorsivo a partire da solo un euro al mese.
Nel collettivo dei musicisti di Keystune è presente una persona che ha vissuto e operato presso La Candela per diversi mesi. Davide Mancini ci ha raccontato dell’importanza e della bellezza di questo luogo e delle persone che lo vivono, sensibilizzandoci ad attivarci per provare a dare visibilità a questo grave momento di bisogno. El Santuario “La Candela” es una organización sin ánimo de lucro fundada en 2010 por la activista Lucía Martínez. Está situado en el Parque Nacional de Doñana, en la provincia de Sevilla. La misión del santuario es el rescate y rehabilitación de todos los animales salvados de malos tratos, accidentes, explotación, posible matanza.
Inicialmente el santuario estaba dedicado principalmente a casos de perros considerados potencialmente peligrosos. Como resultado de su expansión, La Candela también comenzó a albergar animales de granja y animales rescatados del maltrato de las fiestas del país, alcanzando una cuota de 300 huéspedes.
En 2018, con el cierre del santuario “La Pepa”, La Candela se hizo cargo de otros 250 animales, llegando hoy a albergar más de 500 animales de todas las especies. Esta realidad es mantenida solo por una decena de trabajadores voluntarios, entre residentes, no residentes y temporeros.
Además de la finalidad de cuidado y conservación, esta reserva natural de más de ochenta hectáreas es un proyecto en continua evolución dedicado a la felicidad de los animales salvados, y a la de las personas que lo habitan, teniendo tambien como objetivo la autosuficiencia energética.

En todos estos años han realizado una valiosa cadena de colaboraciones basada en socios, adopciones a distancia, teamers y donantes puntuales, que le permiten pagar los gastos veterinarios, asistir a las urgencias y trabajar por nuevos rescates, además del mantenimiento del santuario.
Las necesidades veterinarias para el cuidado y los medicamentos destinados a los huéspedes animales que los voluntarios reciben, a menudo necesitan grandes inversiones económicas, especialmente para las terapias de largo curso. En particular, como consecuencia de la conmoción pandémica, se han agravado mucho las dificultades económicas poniendo en peligro la continuación del trabajo y las garantías de asistencia y salvaguardia hacia los animales.
Por este motivo, se han emprendido varias actividades de apoyo a esta particular y valiosa realidad, como la posibilidad de adoptar a distancia, hacer donaciones o una fórmula de apoyo recurrente a partir de solo un euro al mes.
En el colectivo de músicos de Keystune está presente una persona que vivió y trabajó en La Candela durante varios meses. The Sanctuary “La Candela” is a non-profit organisation founded in 2010 by activist Lucía Martínez. It is located in the Doñana National Park, in the province of Seville. The mission of the sanctuary is the rescue and rehabilitation of all animals saved from mistreatment, accidents, exploitation, and potential slaughter.
Initially the sanctuary was mainly dedicated to cases of dogs considered potentially dangerous. Following its expansion, La Candela also began hosting farm animals and animals rescued from mistreatment during village celebrations, bringing their number of guests up to 300.
In 2018 with the closure of the sanctuary “La Peppa”, La Candela has sheltered an extra 250 animals bringing it today to an occupancy of over 500 animals of varying species. This reality is kept alive by only a handful of hard-working volunteers, including residents, non-residents and seasonal.

In all these years they have created a valuable network of collaborations based on partnership, long-distance adoptions, teamers and regular donations. This allows La Candela to pay its veterinary expenses, assist emergencies, embark on new rescues and maintain the sanctuary premises.
The veterinary needs for care and medicines to be dedicated to the animal hosts that the volunteers welcome, often require large economic investment, especially for long-term therapies. In particular, as a result of the pandemic shock, economic difficulties have been greatly exacerbated, jeopardising the continuation of the work and the guarantees of assistance and protection for the animals.
For this reason, several support activities have been launched towards this rare and valuable reality, such as the possibility of long-distance adoption, making free lump sum donations or a periodic donation starting from only one euro per month.
In the collective of Keystune’s musicians there is a person who has lived and operated as a volunteer at La Candela for several months. Davide Mancini told us about the beauty and importance of this place and the people that live it, making us aware of the necessity to participate in trying to show others about this serious moment of need.
